Pride Kickoff, Parade, and Volunteer Details!

Democrats for Equality,

Pride is NEXT WEEK! Can you believe it!?

Join us on Thursday, July 13 for our 2017 PRIDE Kick-Off from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at FruitCraft, 1477 University Ave in Hillcrest. Our annual fundraiser is $15 for club members who have renewed their 2017 membership dues, and $30 for non-club members.

Purchase tickets for our Pride Kick-Off event here.

Then on Saturday, July 15, join us and march with us in our parade contingent at San Diego Pride. We will be assembling near the DMV on Normal Street in Hillcrest. Step-off for the parade will be 11:00am, so if you’re interested in marching with us please try and be there no later than 10:00am.

For more details or questions about the Pride Kick-Off or Parade, contact club president Will Rodriguez-Kennedy at president@democratsforequality.org, or call 619-709-0675.

Finally, the real work begins during the two-day Pride festival in Balboa Park. We need volunteers — and some of you have already indicated interest! We need help staging the booth, registering voters, signing-up and renewing club members, and promoting our progressive issues and values throughout the weekend.

Click here if you’d like to sign-up to volunteer for our booth.

There are shifts available in several hour blocks on both Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers will be given a free ticket to the San Diego LGBT Pride Music Festival.

Remember that one year Ryan Trabuco was left all alone in the booth for 5-and-a-half hours because of the rain storm? He was miserable. I still have not heard the end of it! Oh, does he ever still complain about it. I swear, that’s probably the most egregious, catastrophic event that’s ever happened to him, and that includes the time he accidentally closed the garage door on his thumb — twice.

Anyway… let’s not have that happen again! Sign-up, volunteer, and weather permitting, it’s projected to be sunny! Yay!

Finally, the board has decided that there will be a club meeting on Thursday, July 27th, which as some of you may know is my 30th birthday. It will be a short meeting, and the tentative agenda will include bylaw amendments (they will be sent out next week), consideration of changing our meeting dates to the 3rd Thursday instead of fourth. More info to come.

In Solidarity.
