Democrats for Equality,
Last November, Democrats swept every single Congressional seat in Orange County. We also flipped a State Senate, Assembly, and Supervisor seat… all while Republicans were clinging to a voter registration advantage.
Yesterday, it became official. Democrats officially surpassed the GOP in voter registration.
“Say it loud, say it clear: Democrats are leading here!” was the chant lead by OC Democratic Party Chair Ada Briceno.
Throughout the 1990s, Republicans held a near 20-point voter registration advantage, and as recently as the 2014 election cycle still held on to an advantage close to 10-points.
Donald Trump changed all that.
By the time the 2016 election was over, the Republican Party’s voter registration advantage was less than 4 percentage points, and Hillary Clinton became the first Democrat to win Orange County since FDR in 1936.
In a place long proclaimed “Reagan Country,” home to the Nixon Library, and where anti-LGBT State Senator John Briggs was elected numerous times — there is no doubt that the voter trends towards the Democratic Party is nothing short of historic.
Congratulations to all of our friends and family in Orange County who helped make this happen!
Also, friendly reminder about our club meeting next Thursday, August 15th at the Joyce Beers Community Center in Hillcrest (3900 Vermont Street). We’ll be meeting at a special time — 6:30pm — so we can get through the endorsements we have scheduled (calendar posted here).
Finally, Cindy Green’s family posted on the GoFundMe page that her ashes will be scattered at sea in Coronado Beach & Dog Park on Saturday, August 10th. There is not a definitive time posted, but you may want to check the GoFundMe page for updates.
There are still plans cultivating for a larger community-oriented celebration of life in the next couple of weeks. We will keep you up-to-date on that as more information becomes available.
