Huge Club Meeting This Thursday: King’s Coalition, CAIR, and What is happening at SANDAG?!

Democrats for Equality,

HUGE NEWS! Thanks to all of your support and work in 2016, San Diego Democrats for Equality will be recognized as “Club of the Year” at the San Diego County Democratic Party Roosevelt Dinner. This is our second time winning this award, last time being in 2003 and the competition was fierce. So fierce that we tied with our brothers and sisters at La Mesa-Foothills Democratic Club so we will both be getting the honor. Congratulations!

This month’s meeting is Thursday, February 23rd at 7:00pm at the Joyce Beers Community Center, 3900 Vermont Street San Diego, CA 92103.

So you know we will be electing three members of our board: Vice President for Political Action, Treasurer, and Board Member At Large. Nominations will be accepted via email and on the floor. Current candidates who have declared are:

Susan Guinn for Vice President for Political Action (incumbent)
Craig Roberts for Treasurer (incumbent)
Rickie Brown for Board Member at Large (incumbent)

I am really excited to announce that this month’s meeting will continue our commitment to #Resistance and intersectional #progressive activism. Last month we listened to women who are leading the way, this month we will hear from young men of color who are leading voices for justice: Racial Justice, Justice for the Muslim Community and Immigrants and Transportation Justice.

We are honored to have National Action Network San Diego Chapter President Shane Harris, Council on American-Islamic Relations consultant Fayaz Nawabi and National City Planning Commissioner Marcus Bush to address the club this meeting.

We will talk about the King Coalition and the 10 point demands that they highlighted at the Kings March and will be delivering to city council.

We will talk about the challenges facing the local Muslim community and Islamaphobia that has been perpetrated via one local elected official.

We will talk about the scandal brewing at SANDAG where the organization misled voters and constituents about revenue projections.

In these three issues the common theme is justice and you will be able to learn and get involved!

Join us Thursday and keep fighting the good fight. #TheResistance continues on!

In Solidarity.
