Democrats for Equality,
What a fabulous start to Pride Month!
AND since we are into the Summer months during Pride, it’s that time again to renew your club memberships!
All club memberships are up for renewal after June 30th, so don’t delay and renew your membership today!
President Joe Biden issued a proclamation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month this week.
National City’s Council voted to fly the Progressive Pride flag in the city at a date set to be announced. Once that date is set, we’ll let you know! Thank you to Councilmember Marcus Bush for your leadership on this!
Councilmember Paloma Aguirre led the way in Imperial Beach for their city council to adopt a resolution and raising of the Pride flag. Once that date is set, we’ll let you know!
And thank you to Councilmember Joe Mosca for leading the way in Encinitas to raise the Progress Pride flag (pictured above).
Also, thank you again to our Platform & Questionnaire Committee members for the work and effort into updating our club’s platform.
At our last club meeting, members voted to ratify our updated platform and we are excited to share that with you here.
Finally, join us for our next San Diego Democrats for Equality meeting on Thursday, June 17th at 6:30pm.
We will announce our full meeting’s program soon, but we will formally consider voting to oppose a number of the recall attempts against our Democratic elected officials, including Governor Gavin Newsom, Supervisor Chair Nathan Fletcher, Carlsbad Councilmember Cori Schumacher, La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board Trustee Charda Bell-Fontenot, and Vista School Board Trustee Martha Alvarado.
Not all of these recall efforts will make it to the ballot — like the woefully inept and failed attempt against Council President Dr. Jen Campbell. Our California Democratic Party is already opposed to the recall of our Governor, and our club should take a position and stand with our elected Democratic leaders who are fighting hard every day enacting the systemic changes we need at all levels of government. So, that’s what we will do at our next meeting.
I love you all,
San Diego Democrats for Equality
