Response from Council President Todd Gloria to the Club’s Election Reform Resolutions

 

At the Club’s June meeting, San Diego Democrats for Equality directed the Board to submit resolutions to the San Diego City Council and San Diego County Board of Supervisors to request amendments to the City’s and County’s Charter.  One of these amendments would require that voter initiated Referendums and Initiatives be placed only on the General Election ballot when voter participation is highest.  The other would require that the City and County do away with it’s current practice allowing candidates who receive 50% + 1 vote in a Primary Election to win the office without coming before a more comprehensive electorate in the General Election.  The letter above from Council President Gloria details the actions that have been taken on the proposals.  The original resolutions are shown below.
