Club Meeting This Week!

Democrats for Equality,

Our next club meeting will be held this Thursday, June 20 at 7:00pm. Come join us at the Joyce Beers Community Center in Hillcrest (3900 Vermont Street, San Diego, CA 92103).

We are looking to endorse in three races: Friendly incumbents in the 76th and 79th Assembly Districts, as well as make an endorsement for the 78th Assembly District.

We will also fill a vacancy on our executive board for Controller, and our new Legislative Advocacy Director Brandon Torres will present on two bills that we’ve been asked to take a position on: SB 338 (Hueso bill regarding senior and disability victimization), and HR 5 (The Equality Act).

It’s PRIDE SEASON folks! You know what that means… it’s time to renew your club membership!

A couple of years ago, we switched to 1-year annual memberships with a target renewal date of July 1st. This was done for a couple of reasons: 1) simplify our club’s membership renewal process, and 2) hopefully, make it an easy-to-remember time of year: if it’s Pride, it’s time to renew.

If you’ve joined recently or renewed your membership in the last couple of months, then you’ll be fine until next year. If it’s been awhile, and you can’t really remember when the last time you paid your club dues, then maybe it’s time to renew.

San Diego Democrats for Equality is only as strong as you, our members.

So many of you have been with us for decades — some of you from the very beginning!

You’ve been with us from the highest of highs (major election successes), and the lowest of lows (those times we forget to order food for the meetings! oops). Some of you have maybe only been with us for a couple months or even a year.

We love all of you — and we want y’all to stay involved. Please continue your membership with the best damn Democratic club this side of the Cleveland National Forest!

Also, we have launched our ticket page for our 2019 Pride Kickoff Event set for Thursday, July 11th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Fruitcraft in Hillcrest.

Tickets are $40 for club members and $50 for non-club members.
You could renew your club membership at a higher level and get your complimentary ticket for our Pride Kickoff event, too!

As we are less than a month out from San Diego Pride, we will be marching in the parade on Saturday, as well as hosting a booth on Saturday and Sunday during the festival with the San Diego County Democratic Party.

Pride Parade: If you want to march with us in the parade, we are hoping to gather somewhere near the Hillcrest DMV on Saturday, July 13th. We will know our specific location in a couple weeks. We would ask that everyone show up no later than 9:30am. The parade itself starts at 10am, so please plan your travel accommodations accordingly.

Pride Booth: If you would like to volunteer at our booth at any time during the Pride Festival in Balboa Park on Saturday, July 13th or Sunday, July 14th, please let us know your preferred availability on this organizing form here.

All told it should be a great time — we are also conducting a Presidential Straw Poll for the Democratic candidates at the booth! Of course, we will all be interested in seeing the outcome of those results Monday morning after the festival.

Finally, a little bit of generosity to end this week…

Our Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins is organizing Skivvies for Stand Down, and is collecting undergarments in support of Veterans Village of San Diego.

If you are able to donate new underwear, bras, undershirts for men, women, and children you can do so through June 24th at a number of locations throughout San Diego, list to follow.

Please attach a note so they can thank those who donate.
