Democrats for Equality,
Next Tuesday (May 12) there are two special elections happening that the California Democratic Party has issued calls to action for. Both are all-mail-ballot elections.
There is a special election happening just north of us in the Coachella Valley for State Senate District 28. Our Democratic nominee is Elizabeth Romero, a member of the Riverside County Board of Education, and Vice Chancellor at UC Riverside. She is facing off against one of the most right-wing conservative members of the state legislature, Assemblymember Melissa Melendez.
Elizabeth Romero is endorsed by Equality California, Inland Empire Labor Council, Planned Parenthood, as well as our own State Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins, and Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez.
If you would like to make some virtual phone bank calls for Elizabeth Romero, please sign-up to volunteer at this link.
The other special election is in Congressional District 25, covering Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, and much of the Antelope Valley. Our Democratic nominee is Assemblymember Christy Smith. She’s facing off against a Trump Republican in a race that may have national implications, especially given the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.
Christy Smith is endorsed by Equality California, International Association of Fire Fighters, National Union of Healthcare Workers, and the Los Angeles Times among countless other labor, educational, and environmental organizations.
Our sister club, the Stonewall Democratic Club in Los Angeles, is making texts and calls for Christy Smith.
I love you all,
San Diego Democrats for Equality
