Democrats for Equality,
First off, thank you again for all the wonderful birthday wishes yesterday and over the weekend. I’m still making my way through responding to every one.
Our next club meeting is this Thursday (Oct. 24) , and since we are getting close to Halloween, there’s no better time to attend a club meeting all dressed up in costume! Our second meeting this month will be held at 6:30pm at the Joyce Beers Community Center in Hillcrest.
Aside from a costume party, we will be considering endorsements for:
- San Diego City Attorney (Friendly Incumbent)
- County Board of Supervisors District 1
- Chula Vista City Council District 4
Last week, club members voted to incorporate ranked-choice voting, joining our friends at San Diego County Young Democrats , San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action , and San Diego Labor Democratic Club as adopting that practice to determine our club endorsements.
The only hiccup in this new process is that a number of club members have expressed displeasure about the forced stop-count after tabulating only three rounds. Counting only three rounds of voting was made as an amendment to the bylaws proposal at last week’s meeting.
Any potential action to undo that change may need to be voted on at the November meeting due to Bylaw noticing requirements, however I’m not opposed to having a quick discussion about that at Thursday’s meeting.
Also, part of the changes that were voted on at the meeting changed our “Acceptable” rating to “Qualified.” The rating of “Unacceptable” was not changed.
Speaking of “Unacceptable” ratings… I did receive requests from several club members to entertain a discussion to consider rating Manny Rodriguez “unacceptable” for County Board of Supervisors in District 2. This item was listed on the Facebook event from last week, but neglected to include on the agenda, so we will be discussing that on Thursday.
For what it’s worth, the County Democratic Party recently voted to negatively rate Manny Rodriguez.
All things to discuss on Thursday. Remember to dress in your best Halloween costume… like this guy below!
I love you all,
San Diego Democrats for Equality
